A Pledge Letter from the Founder
As a Black woman, I feel the generational weight of racism intertwined into the very fabric of essentially every system that molds the society that we live in today. Having intimidating conversations about the reality of being black during a police confrontation, enduring micro-aggressions in predominantly white educational spaces, fearing for the rest of my family every time they walk out of the door knowing they could be subject to violence solely based off the color of their skin: these realities were shoved upon me at an age where the only response I could muster was “okay, I understand.” But did I? Did I really understand the depths of racist depravity? At that time, no. I was a young black girl who was wrestling with issues that directly targeted me and every other person that looked liked me, which is hardly digestible for adults, let alone someone of that age. Now, as the fire behind the Black Lives Matter Movement is roaring in 2020 under the pretext of a global pandemic, a light is slowly brightening down the tunnel to “liberty and justice” for Black lives, and my understanding strengthens with it.
What I know is that it is crucial for those who can to step up and speak despite the comfort of silence. Black communities need justice, black communities need liberation, black communities need healing. Embrace Clothing Company is dedicated to the empowerment of the very communities that society strives to suppress. Style and fashion are a medium of expression, and creativity will always breathe life back into areas of despondency.
